The Perverse Immigration Policy of Absurdistan and the Golden Opportunity for the GOP

Over the years we have been inundated with so many absurd news stories about our immigration system that we begin to expect nothing different from our government.  Let’s take a look at the perverted, unjust, and dangerous immigration-related news just from this week.

  • While ignoring those law enforcement agencies that don’t cooperate with federal authorities, the Justice Department is suing Sheriff Joe Arpaio for being stalwart in enforcing our laws.  His constituents are under siege as a direct result of the criminal negligence on the part of the federal government.  Yet, the DOJ is persecuting Arpaio because he is exposing their disregard for our laws and sovereignty.

  • It is now being reported that the southernmost 100 miles of Arizona is under the control of drug cartels.  So, as we fight wars on the other side of the world and successfully monitor and control the harshest topography on the planet, are we to believe that we are incapable of securing our own backyard?  Why are we not implementing an emergency military action (“Operation Arizona Freedom”) to annihilate all foreign enemies, maintain security within every inch of our borders, and create a buffer along the Mexican side of the border?  This should take no more than 48 hours!  Where is the outrage from Republican candidates?

  • Last week, the Obama State Department submitted a report to the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights listing Arizona’s SB 1070 as an example of human rights violations in the US.  This means that the administration is trashing one of our own states for enforcing federal law to a group of vile totalitarian entities like Syria and Libya!

There is no doubt that the defining issue of the election is our fight against big government statism and socialism.  However, we must work to elevate the prominence of the immigration issue in all of the competitive races.  Not only is it good policy; it is good politics as well.  According to the latest Gallup issues poll, Republicans hold their largest lead over the Democrats on issues pertaining to border security and national defense.

In Arizona, the Democrats are slated to become extinct because of the vociferous opposition to illegal immigration throughout the state.   A new survey from Arizona State University reports that 68% of Arizonans support the major provision of SB 1070, which allows police to question anyone they think may be in the country illegally when stopped as a suspect or arrested for a crime.  Also, a whopping 81 percent of registered voters approved of requiring people to produce documents that show they're in the country legally.  A staggering 93% of Republicans support this provision.  The pollster had this to say about the results:
"I've been doing research for 30 years, and it's really hard to get any group to have more than 90 percent agreement on any issue," "The size of the majority supporting [these provisions] is a little eye-popping."
All polls aside, the most important thing to understand is that a country without borders is not a country at all.
